For the third year the Valaam Male Voice Ensemble thrilled a packed audience in Sclerder Abbey with their incredibly beautiful singing on the 30th October.   They travelled to Looe from Birmingham via Penryn for a performance and were continuing their tour by performing in London, Bristol, York, Kings Lynn, Glasgow, Dundee, Inverness, Durham University, Norwich Cathedral, Jesus College Chapel, Cambridge and Leamington Spa.    Many of the audience were moved to tears by the beauty of their singing.   The strict rule of the Valaam Monastery matches the harsh environment of the group of islands in Lake Ladoga where it is situated.   Its traditional liturgical singing reaches deep in to the listener's heart and soul and summons them to prayer.   Their music is an expression of the deep inner unity which transcends language and cultural-historical differences.   It is sincerely hoped that a fourth visit next year may be fitted into their British tour.   Parishioners should take note if they don't want to miss out next year as already there is immense interest from outside sources in attending a future concert, so early booking next year would be advised - why not put your name down now?
